The Network
(All links are external) All lines of the MRT belong to one company, and you can transfer among lines. Fares depend on the number of stations and the distance you travel so you need to decide where you go when purchasing tickets. Pay attention to the destinations of the trains, especially on the red line (Danshui Line). Southbound trains on the red line (Danshui Line) travel via CKS Memorial Hall as through service to either the orange line (Zhonghe Line) or the green line (Xindian Line). Northbound trains on the red line travel to Danshui but some travel only to Beitou. Airport to City All international flights arrive at the Taoyuan International Airport in Taoyuan County about 1 hour west of Taipei. The high speed rail is in service but it does not connect to the airport. From the airport, it's easiest to take the buses to Taipei Station. Some airlines offer buses to Taipei as part of your ticket. Six bus companies provide shuttle service between Taoyuan Airport and Taipei, as listed here.
Songshan Airport is where most domestic flights depart from Taipei. Air tickets are available at the check-in desk. The closest MRT station is Zhongshan High School (Chongshan Kuochong) Intercity Trains All intercity train services in Taiwan are provided by the Taiwan Railways Company. There are express trains, slow trains and several grades in between. The slow trains will stop at all Taipei area staions: Banqiao (Panchiao), Taipei Main Station, and Songshan Station. If you want to travel on fast trains, go to Taipei Main Station, where all trains stop.
