The Alex Fraser Bridge is a legacy of Expo'86 in Vancouver. The theme of the World Exposition Fair was "transportation", which motivated the government to invest money in mega transportation projects, such as the Skytrain and Highway 91.
Highway 91 connects from Vancouver's southern suburb of Richmond to southern Delta, where it merges into Highway 99. The highway qualifies to be called the "Bog highway", because more than half of it lies on bog soils. Its section in Richmond cuts through some cranberry farms, which were converted from
Lulu and East Lulu Bogs. Its section in Delta cuts through Burns Bog,
segregating the eastern portion of the Bog from the main Bog.
